Prior to this beat, the lifelong Bostonian covered the Patriots during the Bill Parcells era, Boston College football during Matt Ryan's collegiate career and a plethora of schoolboy sports. He also worked a year in the news department as a general assignment reporter.

After the Bruins' lost Game 2 to the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday, it was a bit jarring to see on the stat sheet that captain Zdeno Chara had played just 15:51. Only rookie Jeremy Lauzon had played less on the Boston back end.
The Bruins had just two names on the absentee list for Monday's practice, but they were pretty important ones.    Neither David Pastrnak nor Tuukka Rask practiced, with coach Bruce Cassidy putting them in the “unfit to participate” category. Cassidy said he expected them on the ice Tuesday and anticipates Rask starting Game One against the Carolina Hurricanes.
