TOWNSEND — Most high school students look forward to attending their senior prom — it’s a rite of passage. However, at the Townsend Senior Center the seniors attended their own prom.

Around 70 seniors donned their best attire and gathered for an evening of dinner and dance and socializing. All were greeted at the door with a wrist nosegay for women and boutonniere for the gentlemen created by an Intergenerational Drop in craft which took place in the Townsend Library. Parents and children came to make a corsage for themselves and one for a senior.

A professional photographer was available for those who wished to have their pictures taken as singles, couples, and groups. The staff decorated the center in 50s and 60s style. It was time to reminisce of the days gone by. A delicious dinner of chicken cordon bleu was sponsored by the Friends of the Townsend Seniors.

The fun continued through the evening with dancing to the sounds of Back Track Band to 50’s and 60’s songs such as My Guy, The Twist, and One Fine Day.  Music was made possible by a grant from the Amanda Dwight Entertainment Fund.

A prom would not be complete without a King and Queen. Greg Smith, program coordinator of the Townsend Senior was crowned king and Karin Canfield Moore, director of the Senior Center was his queen.
