PEPPERELL — Billed as one of the largest and most popular plants sales in the area, the Pepperell Garden Club will hold its annual plant sale on Saturday, May 20, rain or shine.
The sale is known for its members’ hardy dug plants, annuals, locally grown vegetables and herbs, shrubs, ground covers and much more. The homegrown beauty can be found from 8 a.m. to noon at the Albert Harris Center, located at 37 Nashua Road.
Whether you are a new or experienced gardener, the plant sale promises something for you. This year will see the return of “native plants.” The top reasons why natives are important are that they attract native pollinators, are cold hardy, are pest and disease resistant, need less water, fertilizer, and mulch, increase wildlife value, promote biodiversity, and add beauty with a purpose. Drought-tolerant perennials and hybrid daylilies will also be up for sale.
Other desirable offerings include Mayapple, yellow-rod, bloodroot, black eyed Susans, hosta, irises, among others. Many old-time favorite perennials hand dug by members include bleeding hearts, irises, shrubs, and trees may also be available at very reasonable prices.
As always, club members will be on hand to offer their advice for your garden design questions, plant choices, combinations, and solutions to beautify your landscape.
Tents will be erected that will help should there be inclement weather. The line to enter forms early — sorry no early birds, because the members are working hard to set up for the sale. Feel free to bring your own trays, boxes or even wagons. There will be boxes and some wagons to help you with your beautiful plants.
Credit cards, cash and checks will all be accepted. The plant sale is the sole fundraising event for the Pepperell Garden Club. Funds from the sale are used for numerous beautification projects throughout the town. These projects include the rotary, plantings on Main Street, Town Hall, VFW, as well as containers throughout the town.Holiday greens and wreaths on public buildings and scholarships for local students are also an annual doing of Pepperell Garden Club.
