We are aware that 1st Middlesex state representative candidate Andrew Shepherd filed a lawsuit with the Middlesex Superior Court on Dec. 23 in which he contests the outcome of the Nov. 8 election and names all of the Registrars of Voters and town clerks in the six towns that comprise the 1st Middlesex District as defendants. We further understand that, at the request of the Republican caucus, you have chosen not to seat state Rep.-elect Margaret Scarsdale at the official swearing-in ceremony at the State House on Jan. 4 pending this suit.
Due to the untimely resignation of the former House member, this district has been denied representation for many months. State Rep.-elect Scarsdale was twice certified by the Secretary of State’s office as the winner of this election and it is your constitutional duty to the voters of the Commonwealth to ensure that she is installed. We request that you fulfill the obligations of your office and seat the elected representative, Margaret Scarsdale, without further delay.
How many more weeks or months will it be until the people of the 1st Middlesex District have representation in the Massachusetts House?
