Letter to the Editor: Margaret Scarsdale is an indefatigable leader
PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

Margaret Scarsdale is the candidate I am voting for as state representative, 1st Middlesex District because we can count on her to be engaged with and to take the time to understand the needs of each community as she has done for many years; consistently, steadfastly, and passionately.

Margaret has been working throughout the 1st Middlesex District, and state, for years: As a committed leader in the Kinder Morgan pipeline fight and in the Stop the Toxic Dirt fight; as a skilled grant-writer securing competitive grants for economic development, seniors, and veterans; as a champion overseeing Ayer’s downtown revitalization. She has built numerous  regional partnerships that foster vibrancy in our hometowns. Margaret served with distinction as Pepperell Select Board chair, focusing on collaboration between all boards and commissions. No one in this race comes close to matching Margaret’s decade plus record as a true public servant, who has genuinely and purposefully worked for our district.

Last spring, when Townsend asked the voters for an override, and Ashby was also uncertain that the school budget could be funded, Margaret was the only candidate in this race who attended Selectmen meetings and Finance Committee meetings in each of the regional school district towns. She organized a joint meeting of the boards and worked with all, including the school committee, successfully approaching the state for additional funding. The end result was over half-a-million dollars coming into our district allowing us to afford our schools and our town government services. Margaret was fully committed to serving our towns, and was tenacious in following this work through to its successful conclusion.

Local politics is not partisan politics, and Margaret is the only candidate who has attended board and committee meetings in Townsend; who has served her community as an elected official, community volunteer, and, within the district, an appointed official. She is the only candidate that has publicly stated her positions on the issues.

Margaret’s extensive record and unwavering commitment to public service is evidenced by her endorsements (see margaretscarsdale.com).

The 1st Middlesex District needs a strong advocate at the State House who will work transparently within state government to find solutions for our communities. Margaret will be an indefatigable advocate at the State House.

Join me in voting for Margaret Scarsdale, state representative, 1st Middlesex District.

— Veronica KellChair, Townsend Board of Selectmen
