TOWNSEND — The Nissitissit String Quartet will perform a free summertime concert titled “Cool Classics from the Nissitissit String Quartet” at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 1, at the Townsend Public Library, 12 Dudley Road.

Arrangements of Beatles, Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Duke Ellington will delight the adults, a Disney medley from Encanto will encapture the children, and movie themes from “Star Wars,” “Jurassic Park,” and “Harry Potter” are sure to thrill the whole audience.

The Nissitissit String Quartet is comprised of long-time colleagues and friends who migrated from the Boston area to northwest Middlesex County.

With a mutual desire for a fresh and fun performance experience, generated from musical treasures arranged for string quartet from jazz, Latin, Broadway, Classical, Fiddle/Folk, Pop/Rock and more, the ensemble was born. Members of the ensemble include violinist Lisa Kempskie of Ayer, violinist Peter Stickel of Pepperell, violist Valerie Callahan of Dunstable, and cellist John Bumstead of Pepperell.

Funding for Cool Classics is provided in part by the Townsend Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

“We are excited to be able to provide live music events at the library again, which will be staying open late on this day,” said Stacy Schuttler, library director, Townsend Public Library. “This performance is sponsored by our local cultural council. It should be a great evening with a wonderful array of songs”
