
TOWNSEND — The Auxiliary to VFW Post 6538 took home a first-place award for Auxiliary of the Year in Membership Division 4 during the recent 2022 VFW Auxiliary Department of Massachusetts Convention.
The convention took place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Boston-Westboro hotel and throughout the day, the Townsend auxiliary took home numerous citations and monetary awards for its outstanding participation and contributions to the programs of the national and state Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliaries.
It placed first in Division 4 in the Buddy Poppy/VFW National Home for Children, Legislative, Membership, Mentoring, Scholarships, State President’s Special Project and Youth Activities Programs. It placed second in the Americanism, Community Outreach and Historian/Media Relations Programs.
The VFW Auxiliary to Townsend Post 6538 is especially proud to have been named the first place Auxiliary of the Year in Membership Division 4 during the Department Convention.
During the convention, Townsend Auxiliary Treasurer Lisa Jackson was elected president for the Department of Massachusetts for 2022-2023.
Jackson, along with Dawn Wright, Townsend Auxiliary chaplain and past president, who had been elected District 15 president and appointed department banner bearer for the coming year, and Lynne LeBlanc, Townsend Auxiliary senior vice president, who had been appointed department assistant guard for the coming year, were installed into their offices at the conclusion of the 2022 State Convention.
It was announced at the convention that Betty Mae Tenney, the Townsend Auxiliary president and a past department president, would be the Department Scholarships Program chairman, the Department President’s Advisor, and on the Department Bylaws & Rules Committee for the 2022-2023 year.
The VFW Auxiliary to Townsend Post 6538 is in Massachusetts Membership Division 4, which is comprised of 14 auxiliaries with 81 or more members.
There are currently 96 members in the Auxiliary to Townsend VFW Post 6538.
Membership in the VFW Auxiliary is open to spouses, widows and widowers, grandparents, children and siblings of persons who were or are eligible for membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. Members must profess a belief in God and be not less than 16 years old. Any current VFW member or any person eligible to join the VFW shall not be eligible to join the VFW Auxiliary.
