TOWNSEND — To commemorate the sacrifice of all veterans, from all generations, living and deceased, Townsend VFW Post 5438 and its Auxiliary will join forces with American Legion Post 199 and its Auxiliary, as well as DAV Chapter 122, for a public ceremony.
The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11 at the VFW Park Monument in West Townsend. Guests are encouraged to bring their children so they may learn the importance of Veterans Day and what their sacrifices mean to our country.
Following the ceremony, light refreshments will be served in the VFW Function Hall at 491 Main St.
A Flag Retirement Ceremony will be held at noon outside the VFW Post Home on Veterans Day. Those who have never seen the proper way to respectfully dispose of tattered, torn or faded flags may find this ceremony to be particularly meaningful.
Organizers are hopeful many area residents will attend both of these special Veterans Day ceremonies.
