SHIRLEY — The first settlers of Shirley in 1720 were attracted by farmland and pastures. Today, there’s a different kind of influx.

Since January, five businesses have chosen the Phoenix Park Business Center in Shirley as their new home. Those five companies join more than 60 others in choosing the 300,000-square-foot restored mill, owned by The Lexvest Group.

Phoenix Park was once a bustling mill producing rope and cotton. As Lexvest Group has developed the space, it has looked for ways to incorporate 19th-century charm with 21st-century technology.

The charm of the building and surrounding area caught the attention of Vibe Aesthetics owner and nurse Sarah Wilcox.

“The moment I walked in the main entrance, I knew this was where I wanted to be,” Wilcox said. “The gorgeous woodwork, the history and the diverse companies were amazing. Even the commute on quiet roads without stress became a selling point, minutes from home. I couldn’t be happier.”

However, the connection Wilcox felt extended beyond scenery or good neighbors.

“Being a new start-up, we needed a place to put down roots. Everyone was friendly, helpful and invested in choosing the right fit for their property. I got the distinct sense that Lexvest is invested in not just their properties, but also in people and their success. That speaks volumes to me not only as a business owner, but more importantly as a person.”

Lexvest Group President Eric Shapiro said the company prioritizes its client’s success.

“We’re fortunate to attract businesses of all sizes and types because of our partnership approach. We want everyone to succeed and encourage entrepreneurs in positive, realistic ways to achieve their goals, with affordable space, custom buildouts and attractive leasing terms,” Shapiro said.

This year, Phoenix Park has welcomed Mad River Associates, a firm specializing in mergers and acquisitions. Also, Woodbury Financial Services, Broadway show production company On The Line Company and accounting and tax firm Bresco Inc. have recently moved in.

Phoenix Park is located near Route 2 and interstates 495 and 190. The company said space is still available for lease including units with 200 square feet or 5,000. Among the advertised perks of the space are shared fitness and conference rooms and the use of solar energy.

The Lexvest Group is a regional real estate development and investment company focused on the redevelopment and repositioning of commercial, industrial and residential properties.

The company owns and operates a portfolio of over 600,000 square feet, home to some 100 businesses in North Central Massachusetts and the northwest corridor of Interstate 495. The company also owns and operates a diverse hospitality portfolio on Cape Cod.
