TOWNSEND — The Friends of the Townsend Seniors and the Friends of the Townsend Library will co-host the lawn party at the Townsend Military Band’s Thursday evening, Aug. 5, concert on the Common.
The Friends of the Townsend Seniors will be selling pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, bunk house beans, and fresh fruit salad. They will also have iced tea and cold soda and bottled water available for purchase. Friends of the Townsend Seniors Cookbooks will be on sale at the Friends of the Townsend Seniors Membership Information Table during the concert.
The Friends of the Townsend Library will offer popcorn, fried dough, a wide variety of home baked goods, and used books for sale. No book donations will be accepted at the Common that evening. The Friends of the Townsend Library will also have a Recruitment Table.
Children attending the concert may pick a lollipop in hopes of winning a prize and play the bean bag toss, fish pond, and Huge Connect 4 games.
The Townsend Military Band will open its concert at 7:30 p.m. by playing Higgins’ arrangement of “John Williams: The Symphonic Marches” and the “Bacharach and David medley” by Bacharach and David. The “Hollywood Milestones” arranged by Higgins, the “St. Julien March“ edited by Tousignant, and “Highlights from Oklahoma” arranged by Yoder will be performed. Brown’s arrangement of “Pixar Movie Magic” and the “Zacatecas Mexican March” arranged by Glover will be included in the first portion of the concert.
Following intermission “The Nutmeggers March” by Osterling and the “English Folk Suite” by Vaughan Williams will be played. The “Blue Tango” and Sousa’s “Semper Fidelis March” will be performed before the band concludes at 9:30 p.m. by playing the “Star Spangled Banner.”
