LOWELL — Following a reset of all UMass Lowell user passwords, students, faculty and staff are once again able to access IT systems for academic and business operations.

UMass Lowell classes will resume on Monday. UMass Lowell business operations will also resume; however, some services may be limited as network and phone systems continue to be brought back online.

The university had proactively suspended access to its campus network last week in response to a cybersecurity incident that remains under investigation.

“This has been a challenging week and we apologize to our students and employees and thank them for their patience,” said Steve O’Riordan, UMass Lowell vice chancellor for finance and operations.

O’Riordan also thanked the many employees in Information Technology and across the university who have worked very long hours in recent days to safely and securely restore access for the campus community.

Top university officials announced last Tuesday they are investigating a possible “cybersecurity incident” affecting their technology services.

University officials said then and later in the week that they continue to retain control over the school’s information technology infrastructure and that they are working with a cyberforensics firm to identify, evaluate and eliminate any issues that are discovered.

However, the university has suspended all network communications to and from the campus network while the incident is being evaluated, “out of an abundance of caution.”
