Local roundup: Shawsheen Tech, Lowell Catholic skate to a tie

Shawsheen Tech and Lowell Catholic played to a 1-1 ties on Thursday night at Hallenborg Rink.

It was the season opener for ST, while Lowell Catholic moved to 1-0-1 on the young season.

On Wednesday, LC defeated St. Joseph’s, 9-0.

Patrick Drew had a hat trick, while Alex Pescatore had 2 goals and 3 assists. Jake McDonough added his 1st varsity goal and 2 assists.

Shawn Martell stopped 10 shots for the shutout.

BURLINGTON 4, WILMINGTON 2  Burlington earned the Middlesex League win on Wednesday.

Sophomore Mike Daniels scored both Wilmington goals, his first as a varsity player. Assists went to seniors Robby Courtney and Matt Pendenza.

Girls basketball

NDA OPTS OUT  The Academy of Notre Dame announced that it has opted out of interscholastic basketball this season, due to the rising cases of COVID-19 throughout the state and the fact that basketball is considered a high risk sport.

The school is planning to offer an intramural basketball program for students.
