DRACUT — Two people were injured and a driver was cited as a result of a head-on crash on Mammoth Road near the Dracut Senior Center on Sunday night, according to Acting Police Chief Stephen Chaput.

Chaput said emergency crews were called to the area of 971 Mammoth Road about 8:30 p.m., and arrived on the scene to find two vehicles involved.

Two people were taken to Lowell General Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, Chaput said.

The driver of one of the vehicles, Michael Urbano, 27, of Dracut, was cited for a marked-lanes violation and operating to endanger, Chaput said.

The crash comes as Chaput has sounded the alarm on an increasing number of crashes in Dracut this year, including on Mammoth Road, where there have recently been other serious collisions as well.

The portion of Mammoth Road in front of the Dracut Senior Center is a 30 mph zone, with radar-equipped signs recording driver speeds and warning those who are speeding to slow down. Those signs are situated on each side of the Senior Center in an effort to get vehicles to slow down in the area.
