TOWNSEND — A resident of Scott Road was taken into custody by police after refusing to leave his private residence Monday morning.

Interim Police Chief James Sartell said the department was notified by a walk-in concern at around 9 a.m. that a male in his early 30s was not leaving his home. Sartell said that the man was making threats against officers that arrived at the scene. With the threats made, Sartell said that a SWAT team from the North Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council was called in to assist the situation.

“I never in a million years thought we would’ve had such a quick response,” he said.

The man soon afterward surrendered himself to the SWAT team and the scene was cleared by 10:40 a.m. Sartell said that more information on the incident would be available later on.
