LOWELL — U.S. Rep. Lori Trahan and state Rep. James Arciero attended the recent 2020 Team Forever Young Celebration Gala for suicide prevention at the UMass Lowell Inn & Conference Center.

Sponsored by Lowell Sun Charities, Team Forever Young and See A New Sun Foundation, the annual event raises money to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the mission of which is to fund scientific research into the issue of suicide, offer educational programs for professionals, promote policies and legislation to address suicide prevention, and to offer programs and resources for survivors of suicide and persons at risk.

The ultimate goal is to reduce the annual suicide rate by 20% by 2025.

Spearheaded by Nancy Cook and Team Forever Young, a Westford-based suicide-prevention group that raises money through Out Of The Darkness overnight walks, the group has raised more than $660,000 in the last 11 years.

Trahan was the keynote speaker of the gala.
