Joss Stone is first act announced for 2020 Lowell Summer Music Series

Joss Stone will play July 11 at Boarding House Park.

Whether it’s the office swap, a thank-you from a neighborhood merchant or a gift from a semi-distant relative, the new year always brings new calendars.

As you are populating the calendar with doctor and dentist appointments, make sure to leave space for Lowell Summer Music Series concert announcements.

The first show announced for the 2020 lineup brings British singer-songwriter Joss Stone to Boarding House Park on Saturday, July 11, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $47 in advance, $55 on the day of the show, and $147 for premium seating. They go on sale Friday, Jan. 10, at 10 a.m., at, by calling 1-800-657-8774 or by visiting the Lowell Memorial Auditorium box office.

Stone is just 32 but has been a musical force since 2003, when she was just 16. She was the youngest British female singer to top the UK Albums Chart. She has earned two Brit Awards and one Grammy Award among her five nominations. She acted in the feature film “Eragon” and played Anne of Cleves in the Showtime series “The Tudors” in 2009.

Musically, she has performed alongside James Brown, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, Sting, Van Morrison, Carlos Santana and Melissa Etheridge. She has collaborated with, and contributed to albums by, Jeff Beck, Sting, Mick Jagger and Damien Marley.

As you can probably guess from the artists she has performed and recorded with, Stone blends R&B, soul, blue-eyed soul and even reggae into her unique sound. It definitely works. Stone is a captivating presence on stage, performing barefoot while almost losing herself in the music.

She has released seven studio albums, each of which has reached the top 40 on the Billboard album chart.

The Beat has learned that the second show in the 2020 lineup will be announced next week so, as always, stay tuned to this space for more details.
