AYER — Five people were displaced from their homes on Monday by a 4-alarm fire on Columbia Street.
Police Chief William Murray said 911 was alerted to the blaze about 1:40 p.m.
No residents of the building were in their apartments at the time of the fire and there were no injuries reported from the fire.
Fire Chief Robert Pedrazzi said the cause of the blaze was undetermined after an investigation.
He added that the fire started on the first floor and eventually caused about $300,000 in damages to the first and second floor, along with smoke damage to the third floor.
Chief Pedrazzi added that two of the apartment residents are being helped by the Red Cross.
According to the Town Assesor’s map, the building is co-owned by Cohas Brook Properties LLC and Robert G. Allaire.
The building itself is assessed at $207,700 while the land is assessed at $89,100, adding to a total of about $296,800.
