The Townsend Military Band performs its Summer Band Concert weekly on the Town Common on Thursday nights.

TOWNSEND — The Townsend Military Band will open its 2019 Thursday evening concert series on the Townsend Common on June 6.

Townsend Scout groups will host the lawn party to be held in conjunction with the June 6 concert. Area residents of all ages are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs or blankets to the Townsend Common on Thursday evening so they may sit and enjoy the good music and the company of friends and neighbors as well as the variety of food and beverages which will be offered for sale.

Boy Scout Troops #10 and #81 and Cub Pack #11 will cook and serve hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, sausages with peppers and onions, and chili. Gluten-free desserts, frozen snow cones, chips, hot coffee, and cold soda and bottled water will be available for purchase.

Several activities will be set up on the Common that evening for the enjoyment of children.

Townsend Girl Scouts will have a large selection of Girl Scout cookies available for purchase.

The Townsend Military Band under the direction of Thomas Souza of Chelmsford will open its concert at 7:30 p.m. by playing the “St. Julien March” arranged by Tousinant and the “Hootenanny Folk Festival for Band” by Walters.

“It’s A Long, Long Way to Tipperary” by Williams and Judge, the “Bravura March” edited by Diller, and “Disney at the Movies” arranged by Higgins will be performed. Bennett’s transcription of “Victory At Sea” and Lake’s arrangement of the “Florentiner March” will be played during the first portion of the concert.

The “Bicentennial of America March” by Canito and “The Italian in Algiers” arranged by Moses-Tobani will be played following intermission. Yoder’s arrangement of “Oklahoma Music,” the “Princess of India” by King, and Winter’s arrangement of “Amparito Roca” will be offered before the Townsend Military Band concludes its concert at 9:30 p.m. by playing the “Star Spangled Banner.”
