GROTON — It wasn’t the outcome they had been hoping for, but the Crusaders put on a quite a show for high school baseball fans on Senior Day, dropping a thrilling 9-8 contest against visiting Marlboro on Monday.
Senior Kasey Griffiths paced the Groton-Dunstable offense with two hits, including a triple, two runs scored, one RBI and one stolen base in the Mid-Wach B loss. Joe O’Malley (2 runs) and Isaac Zhang had two hits and one RBI each for G-D (9-5, 5-2 Mid-Wach B). Brendan Ferrari had a double and scored a run.

GROTON-DUNSTABLE 2, Wachusett 0 — Junior right-hander Brendan Ferrari pitched and hit Groton-Dunstable past Wachusett Regional in a Midland-Wachusett League crossover game on May 17.
On the mound, Ferrari tossed a four-hit shutout with eight strikeouts. Ferrari chipped in offensively with a double and one run scored.
Doug Tompkins singled and scored G-D’s first run on a base hit to right field by Joe O’Malley in the fifth inning.
In the sixth, Ferrari reached on an error and scored an insurance run.
Tompkins had two hits with a double for G-D (9-4).
GROTON-DUNSTABLE 9, Tyngsboro 2 — Nate Glencross and Riley Curran combined on a one-hitter as Groton-Dunstable beat Tyngsboro in a Midland-Wachusett League crossover game on May 16.
Glencross started on the mound and gave up one hit in 2 1/3 innings. Curran earned the win on the mound and didn’t allow a hit while pitching the final 4 2/3 innings.
Isaac Zhang paced Groton-Dunstable’s offense with three hits, two RBIs and one run scored.
Will Bordes (run, RBI) and Jared Whitby (3 runs, RBI) had two hits each for the Crusaders.
Kasey Griffiths had a double with two RBIs and two runs scored for Groton-Dunstable (8-4).
Nolan Michaud had Tyngsboro’s hit and scored a run.
GROTON-DUNSTABLE 2, Hudson 1 — Jared Whitby went six innings for the win and Brendan Ferrari came in to close it out in the seventh on May 15. Ferrari also went 2 for 2 with a double. Groton-Dunstable (7-4) plated both runs in the fourth, with Isaac Zheng and Will Bordes knocking in the runs. Doug Tompkins had two hits for the Crusaders.
ST. BERNARD’S 4, Ayer Shirley 3 — Jon Pinard allowed just four hits and struck out seven to earn a complete-game victory for the Bernardians (7-7) on May 15. Max Bigelow had a single, a double, a pair of stolen bases and scored a run, and Andrew Gardiner drove in a pair of runs.

MARLBORO 18, Groton-Dunstable 4 — Whitney Ellis belted a grand slam to account for all of Groton-Dunstable’s runs in Monday’s Midland-Wachusett League game.
Jenna Beauchain had two hits and scored one run, while Cassidy Heulings had a hit and scored a run.
TYNGSBORO 7, North Middlesex 2 — Amanda Para earned the win in the circle with eight strikeouts in five innings on May 15. She also had a single. Brenna Thirkell (1 for 4, double) and Paige Connery (1 for 4, 3 RBIs) were strong at the plate.
OAKMONT 6, North Middlesex 3 — Willy McCarthy scored all three goals for North Middlesex (5-7) on Tuesday. Brendan Pelkey and Jake Langlois recorded two goals each for Oakmont Regional (5-10).
SHREWSBURY 10, Groton-Dunstable 9 — Nathan Townsend was a force on offense for Groton-Dunstable (3-10), finishing with three goals and one assist in the May 17 contest.
Alex Ciani scored two goals and one assist. Aiden McDonough won 19 of 21 on faceoffs, while Declan Nash (17 saves) had a strong game in goal.
ALGONQUIN 10, Groton-Dunstable 4 — Algonquin beat Groton-Dunstable in a Mid-Wach A contest on May 15. Nathan Townsend led the way on offense for the Crusaders with two goals. Alex Cianci and Declan Lowney netted one goal each for G-D (3-9).
BROMFIELD 11, Groton-Dunstable 10 — Bromfield edged Groton-Dunstable in overtime in Tuesday’s Midland-Wachusett League A Division game.
Groton-Dunstable senior captain Julia Stathis scored four goals, including the 100th goal of her varsity career, and had one assist.
Hannah Wynn netted three goals, while Noelle St. Germain (14 saves) had a strong game in goal for G-D (5-8).
SHREWSBURY 22, North Middlesex 11 — The first game on the new artificial turf at North Middlesex Regional didn’t go exactly as planned.
The Patriots’ girls’ lacrosse team opened play on the turf Monday, falling to Shrewsbury, 22-11.
Jordon Highley led the way for North Middlesex (6-8), scoring five goals. Aimee Stairs added four goals in the loss.
Holly Hruskoci potted eight goals and had two assists to lead the way for Shrewsbury (9-7).
GROTON-DUNSTABLE 14, Shrewsbury 12 — Julia Stathis potted six goals while powering Groton-Dunstable past Shrewsbury on May 17.
Abby Eisenklam checked in with two goals and two assists for the Crusaders (5-7).
Hannah Wynn tallied two goals and one assist, while Riley Eldredge netted two goals.
GROTON-DUNSTABLE 5, Nashoba 0 — Groton-Dunstable won both ends of Tuesday’s doubleheader against Nashoba Regional, sweeping the first contest in impressive fashion.
In the early match, Jens Georgs (8-1), Tyler Barlow (8-2) and Alex Dai (8-6) swept their singles matches, while the first-doubles team of Alex O’Brien and Rohan Francis (8-0) and the second-doubles team of Keval Shah and Jason Huang (8-5) were also victorious.
GROTON-DUNSTABLE 3, Nashoba 2 — The Crusaders (4-6) won again in Tuesday’s later contest, albeit in a tighter match. Jens Georgs (8-2) and Tyler Barlow (8-3) prevailed at first and second singles, respectively, and the first-doubles team of Alex O’Brien and Rohan Francis won, 8-2.
NORTH MIDDLESEX SWEEPS GARDNER — Evan Gaibor won both of his singles matches as North Middlesex posted a pair of wins over Gardner, 5-0 and 3-2, on Tuesday.
In the 5-0 victory, Caleb Amidon and Jake Richard won their singles matches for the Patriots.
The team of Jackson Anselmi and Tom Kelly and the team of Matt Burns and Matt Resmini won their doubles matches.
In the 3-2 victory, North Middlesex received wins at doubles from the duo of Jake Marr and Dan Goad, as well as the team of Peter Martinez and Josh Gruber.
BROMFIELD 5, North Middlesex 0 — Charlie Bardenheuer, Raymond Li and John Parlee won their singles matches while leading Bromfield past North Middlesex on Monday.
NORTH MIDDLESEX 5, Leominster 0 — Caleb Amidon, Evan Gaibor and Jake Richard all notched singles wins for North Middlesex (5-3) on May 15. The first-doubles team of Jackson Anselmi and Tom Kelly and the second-doubles grouping of Matt Burns and Dan Goad also won. Leominster falls to 2-6.
GROTON-DUNSTABLE 4, Shepherd Hill 1 — Jens Georgs, Kai Georgs and Tyler Barlow won their singles matches while leading Groton-Dunstable past Shepherd Hill in a Midland-Wachusett League match on May 15. Alex Dai and Josh Mayer teamed up for a win at first doubles for the Crusaders.
NASHOBA 5, Groton-Dunstable 0 — Nashoba swept its way to victory in the early match of Tuesday’s doubleheader.
Emma Hakala (8-2), Kaylin Castles (8-1) and Bella MacNeil (8-5) swept through their singles matches.
NASHOBA 5, Groton-Dunstable 0 — It was another sweep for Nashoba (7-6) in the later match. This time, the first-doubles team of Leah Farinella and Brianna Ankstitus (8-3) and the second-doubles team of Emily Boucher and Iria Rodriguez Montero (8-4) were victorious for the Chieftains.
