AYER — The ASRHS Drama Club’s next production of the hilariously horrific “Little Shop of Horrors” is May 10 at 7 p.m., May 11 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and May 12 at 2 p.m. in the Laura S. Leavitt Auditorium at Ayer Shirley Regional High School, 141 Washington Street in Ayer.
In “Little Shop of Horrors,” Seymour Krelborn is a nerdy orphan working at Mushnik’s, a flower shop in urban Skid Row. He harbors a crush on fellow co-worker Audrey, and is relentlessly berated by his boss, Mrs. Mushnik. One day, Seymour finds a very mysterious unidentified plant, which he names Audrey II. The plant seems to have a strange craving when it comes to plant food and soon begins to sing for its supper. Soon enough, to ensure his success in life and his future with Audrey, Seymour feeds Audrey II its fill and finds himself in a more than precarious situation having a bit to do with world domination. “Little Shop” is a horror comedy rock musical with music by Alan Menken and lyrics and a book by Howard Ashman, based on the low-budget 1960 black comedy film of the same name. Because of the subject matter and “life” situations, this production is rated PG-13.
This production is directed by JulieAnn Govang with musical direction by Tim Ketterer.
ASRHS students in the cast, crew and pit band are Samantha Abrams, Julia Alo, Dimitri Battle, Abigail Billings, Alexis Blackwell, Carolyn Cooper, Vanessa Delk, Tommy Dentino, Chris Govang, Eric Gravelle, Cailidh Houde, Natalie Kalgren, Katie Kilcommins, Ryan Kilcommins, Anthony Mavilia, Will MacDonald, Ashleigh Oestreicher, Olivia Oestreicher, Mason Pyatt, Cat Quinty, Deran Quinty, Camila Ramos Mercado, Claudia Ramos Mercado, Emily Russell, Zoe Saldana, Owen Salter, Dante Sequeira, Brandon Soto, Cassidy Wenstrom and Noelle Wood as well as ASRHS staff members Lolly Capasso and Jerry Maillet.
