SHIRLEY — At its April 2 meeting, the Shirley Democratic Town Committee voted to host its caucus of registered Democrats in town on Saturday, June 15, at 10:30 a.m. in the Hazen Memorial Library meeting room. Registration will be from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
At this caucus, the committee will elect one male and one female delegate plus one alternate to attend the Massachusetts Democratic Party Convention on Sept. 14 in Springfield.
All are welcome, but only registered Shirley Democrats at the time of the caucus are eligible to vote for or run as delegates. Voter registration forms will be available during the registration period. Pre-registered Democrats who will be age 16 by May 11, 2019, will be allowed to participate and run as a delegate or alternate.
Youth, minorities and people with disabilities who are not elected as delegates or alternates may apply to be add-on delegates. This is a great way to get involved and learn about the political party process.
In other business, the committee elected two attendees to vote at the April 27 Middlesex & Worcester (M&W) Senatorial Conference. Carlos Castro-Castellanos and Patrice Brymner will represent the Committee as they vote for a candidate for the open female M&W District seat on the Mass. Democratic State Committee.
The two candidates vying for the seat, Kara Le Treize of Westboro and Molly Biron of Boxboro, introduced themselves to Shirley DTC members and visitors and answered their questions.
The Shirley DTC also elected four new members: Gaynor Bigelbach, Michelly Batiste, Elizabeth Johnson and Tennie Komar.
Committee Chair Robert Huxley stepped down as chair and was thanked by the members for his years of leadership. The newly elected chair is Dina Samfield.
