Union Congregational Church of Groton announced its 2019 Holy Week worship schedule.

Palm/Passion Sunday is April 14 at 10 a.m. Palms will be handed out and the service will include the senior choir.

Maundy Thursday is April 18 at 7:30 p.m. Holy Communion will be served and the senior choir will sing with the traditional Tenebrae scripture readings accompanied by the extinguishing of lights symbolizing Christ’s death. This is a beautiful, dramatic worship service.

Good Friday is April 19 at 12 noon. The church gathers to pray, sing and view a 20-minute video interpretation of the arrest, trial and death of Jesus, as recorded in the Gospel of John.

Easter Sunday is April 21 at 10 a.m. with the traditional family worship, which is accompanied by the senior choir, handbells and trumpets. Holy Communion will be served and there is no Sunday School.

Easter week services are scheduled for the Federated Church, 21 Washington St. in Ayer.

Palm Sunday service is at 10:15 a.m. on April 14.

Maundy Thursday seder service and meal begins at 6:30 p.m. on April 18.

On Friday, April 19, gather at St. Andrew’s Epsicopal at noon to walk the Stations of the Cross to the Federated Church, which will be open for quiet reflection until 3 p.m.

Good Friday Service of Darkness is April 19 at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday’s Easter Vigil is planned for 7:30 p.m.

Easter Sunday worship is 10:15 a.m. on April 21.

St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church will host its annual Palm Sunday Bake Sale on April 14 in Ayer. The sale, which takes place at the coffee hour in the Parish Hall following the 9:30 am service, will feature a wide assortment of treats for Easter. The public is welcome to come.

The Palm Sunday service marks the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem and is celebrated by the blessing and distribution of palms which represent the branches scattered in front of Jesus as he entered the city. St. Andrew’s celebrates this feast with music and an extended procession.

St. Andrew’s is located at 7 Faulkner Street in Ayer and is a family-friendly community where children are always welcome. The Sunday Celebration of Holy Communion is at 9:30 am and is followed by Coffee Hour in the Parish Hall. Free Child Care is available at 9:15 am.
