The Ayer Shirley Regional High boys basketball team put up a fight — that’s for certain — in its recent Midland-Wachusett League game against West Boylston.
But in the end, the Panthers fell in double-overtime, 91-90, on their home court.
C.J. Holmes poured in 38 points for Ayer Shirley in a Herculean effort. Dekae Ebika added 23 points and Leo Rosales scored 17 in the exhausting, heartbreaking defeat.
Shepherd Hill 51
Evan Cook and Connor Keegan scored 23 points each while powering Groton-Dunstable past Shepherd Hill in a Midland-Wachusett League cross-over game.
Groton-Dunstable improved to 13-3 overall after the win.
N. Middlesex 59
Kyle Blaisdell paced the Patriots’ offense with 18 points in this Mid-Wach encounter.
Will McCarthy (11 points), Matt Haskins (8 points) and Alban Baboci (8 points) also played well for North Middlesex.
Junior Bryonwyn Mulligan had a huge night with 22 points and 10 rebounds, lifting the Crusaders to the non-league home win.
Senior Hannah Wynn tallied 10 points, 10 points and 5 rebounds for Groton-Dunstable, which also received a fine game from junior Jillian Van Pelt, who had 11 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals.

North Middlesex was led by a 13-point performance from Erin Bourgeois.

Strong defense and a balanced scoring attack lifted the Patriots, who received 11 points from Alex Bellemare and 7 points from Rae Callahan.
Erin Bourgeois, Molly McFague and Allie Vazquez netted 6 each for the victors.
Ayer Shirley 53
The Panthers hit the road and returned from Marlboro with an exciting Mid-Wach conquest.
Ayer Shirley broke open a tie game after three quarters by holding a 19-16 edge in the fourth.
Hayley Sheriff led the way with 17 points. Katie Hart had 8 points, while Riley Murphy added 7.

The Cardinals took the out-of-state win thanks to a balanced scoring attack. Declan Wilkie of Groton was one of five Cardinals who scored goals.
Ben Canfield made 20 saves in net as Littleton/ Bromfield skated past Lunenburg/Ayer Shirley.
Danny Angell paced Littleton/Bromfield with 3 goals. Maddox Lizzote scored the first goal and added an assist.
Nathan Handy and Jacob Mauro scored Lunenburg/Ayer Shirley’s goals.

Matt Venti and teammate Connor Lefebvre each pocketed 2 goals and added 1 assist to pace the Vikings.
Jonathan Wright, Ryan Silva and Gabe Nieto scored the other NT goals. Goalie Owen Swanbon made 22 saves between the pipes.
Jack Donaldson of the Bromfield School skied to the gold medal in the Mass. Bay slalom race at Nashoba Valley Ski Area this week by 1.35 seconds.
William Thompson of Groton-Dunstable/Tyngsboro was second.
Also for Bromfield, Patrick Keiran was ninth, Alex Lebish 11th and Gavin Maddalone 13th.
In the girls race, Chloe Brush of G-D/Tyngsboro took top honors by more than 2 seconds.
For Bromfield, Evelyn Bagley finished ninth, Sage McFarland was 14th, Isabel Barton 16th and Sadie Keiran 17th. Audrey Temple of G-D/ Tyngsboro was 15th.
