Great Decisions, genealogy studies at the public library


GROTON — America’s largest discussion on world affairs — an eight-session series led by Jim Simko, starts on Thursday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m. in the Groton Public Library.

Simko leads a discussion on the most critical global issues facing America today, as selected by the Foreign Policy Association. Space is limited. Books will be provided by the GPL Endowment Trust.

Also, Catherine Bence will lead Genealogy Searching on Sundays at 2 p.m. at the library. Starting on Jan. 20 with Getting the Most Out of Ancestry Library Edition — Library Edition vs. personal subscription, tracking recent updates, search strategies, understanding record sets.

On Jan. 27, Getting the Most Out of FamilySearch — Account basics, the Wiki, the Catalog, digital images, beyond the search box, tiers of online records.

On Feb. 3, Genealogy Q&A — The first 3 sessions will be in presentation format. This final session will be directed by your specific questions on any of the resources shown.
