Selectman: I’ll be voting ‘yes’ on field s project to improve our town and region

I am writing to express my support for the Proposition 2 1/2 debt exclusion vote regarding the Ayer Shirley Regional High School Athletic Field Complex that will be held on Dec. 11.

As a current member of the Board of Selectmen, and previously a member of the Finance Committee, I have had the opportunity to attend many of the meetings and public forums regarding the project. Proposing a project of this scale is a challenge and is why it follows such a public process. It is extremely difficult to satisfy each and every resident’s preference within the communities. Throughout the process, honest and valuable input was offered by many members of the communities.

I believe that the School Committee and others involved in the project, carefully considered and incorporated much of that feedback to provide a project that would best suit the needs of our region. I have gained great confidence that this project has been properly vetted and will provide an overall benefit to our towns.

I also respect that there are residents who may have difficulty affording an increase in their property taxes. This is a significant investment in our community and it does require significant consideration.

Each resident will have the opportunity to decide whether this project is appropriate for the town at the ballot on Dec. 11. In my opinion, this project continues the ongoing progress and improvement of our town and region and I will therefore be voting “yes.”
