AYER — The athletic fields subcommittee of the Ayer Shirley Regional School Committee will be holding a public forum on a proposed upgrade to the Ayer Shirley Regional High School outdoor athletic facility on Thursday, Sept. 20. The forum will be held at the high school, 141 Washington St.
The forum will begin with a tour of the current outdoor facility at 6 p.m. Attendees should meet by the Harold G. Norton Field sign.
The forum will move indoors to the high school commons area at 7 p.m. The indoor portion agenda will include a review of the need for improvements and the school committee approved plan, taxpayer impact, and voter approval process.
Members of the subcommittee, school committee, coaching staff, the athletic director, the athletic trainer, and Ayer and Shirley town officials will be on hand to answer questions.
The current athletic facility, built in 1964, is 54 years old with minimal updates since. It no longer meets the demands of current sports programs. For example, it was never designed for soccer, which is now one of the two most participated in sports at the high school, along with track and field.
The facility is also not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
