New sergeant is a friend

The Pepperell Police Department has promoted Detective Jay Friend sergeant. Sgt. Friend recently participated in a four-part promotional process in which he compiled the highest aggregate score. He grew up in Pepperell and graduated from North Middlesex Regional High School. He recently earned his bachelor’s degree at Fitchburg State University. Jay started his law enforcement career in 2006 in Pepperell as an auxiliary officer. He attended the Boylston Police Academy as a self-sponsored recruit, graduating in 2007. He worked as a full-time police officer for the Fitchburg State University Police Department from 2008 through February of 2012, when he was hired by Pepperell. He has served as the department’s detective since November of 2016.
