Essay contest: ‘What being an American means to me.’

TOWNSEND — The VFW Auxiliary to Townsend Post No. 6538 is locally sponsoring the VFW Auxiliary Department of Massachusetts Essay Contest for students in Grade 5.

The theme is “What being an American means to me.” The essay may contain up to 300 words.

The student’s name should not be visible on the front of the essay but should be clearly printed on the back.

All Grade 5 Essay Contest entries should be submitted to VFW Auxiliary to Townsend Post No. 6538

President Betty Mae Tenney by Friday, February 9. Hawthorne Brook Middle School students

should submit their entries to Miss Tenney through their classroom teachers.

The VFW Auxiliary to Townsend Post No. 6538 will award $25 to its first place Essay Contest winner, $15 to its second place finalist, and $10 to its third place finisher.

The Townsend Auxiliary will submit its first place winning essay into the State competition. The Department of Massachusetts Auxiliary will award $100 to the first place State Essay Contest winner and $50 to the second place State Essay Contest winner.
