DEVENS — The future of a recent mass transit option is bright.
The Montachusetts Regional Transit Authority voted unanimously last week to make the Devens Regional Shuttle a permanent service, a spokesperson for MassDevelopment wrote in an email.
Riders pay $2 each way. Most of the cost is covered by businesses, MassDevelopment, the Devens Enterprise Commission, a reallocation of state assessments paid by Shirley and Ayer and federal funds.
Between 90 and 100 riders use the service to get to jobs in Devens from Fitchburg, Leominster and the train station. When not in use for commuters, residents can use it to get to shopping and medical appointments.
The service began in April.
