GROTON — The Groton Town Forest Trail Race will be held Sunday, Oct. 15 at 163 West Main St.

The race is sponsored by the Squannacook River Runners and is part of the WMAC’s Grand Tree Trail Race Series. The races start at 12:30 p.m. for the 9.5 mile race. At 12:40 p.m., a 3.4 mile race will be held.

The two courses tour the scenic Groton Town Forest with no road crossings.

Both race courses combine narrow dirt roads and winding single lane trails. Each course contains varied terrain, with many roots, rocks, leaves and hills. While not large, the hills are steep.

TOWNSEND — The 12th annual Greg’s Run/Walk will be held at Townsend Common at 10:30 a.m. The kiddie run is at 12:30 p.m. Race day registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The 4.6 mile course is both challenging and scenic over rural streets. Cash awards to top three males and females. Free raffle drawing held for all entrants. T-shirts to first 250 entrants and all kiddie run entrants. Enjoy a great post-race lunch. AYER — Nashoba Valley Medical Center’s sixth annual Hunger Run 5K Road Race will begin at NVMC, 200 Groton Road, at 11 a.m. All proceeds will benefit Loaves & Fishes, a non-profit organization that provides food and temporary support services to residents of Ayer, Devens, Groton, Harvard, Littleton and Shirley. Advance registration can be accomplished online by visiting The cost to register for the 5K race is $20 in advance, $10 for the Half Mile Run and $10 for walkers. Each runner should bring one non-perishable food item to be donated to Loaves & Fishes.


WESTFORD — Runners and sponsors are sought for the Friends of Nashoba’s 6th aannual Haunted 5K Road Race. The event benefits the students of Nashoba Valley Technical High School. It is a family-friendly race, and everyone is welcome to walk, jog or run, with or without a costume. There will be a free fun run for kids before the 5K, which starts at 9:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded. Registration fee is $10 for students 18 and under, $25 for adults 19-59, and $15 for those 60 and older. Those who register by Oct. 14 receive a free T-shirt.
