Nashoba Tech mistakes add up to a loss in Week 2 football action

A bizarre sequence of events took place midway through the second quarter, when Vikings linebacker Adam Blouin recovered a fumble near midfield. Nashoba quarterback Vinny Eramo threw an interception on the ensuing play to Gryphons lineman Keegan Bishop-Kotarba.

Then, on the very next play, Blouin recovered his second fumble in three plays, bouncing on an errant GLT snap. Nashoba Tech could not capitalize on the two turnovers however.

With the Vikings down 10 with less than a minute left in the first half, the offense was driving down the field until an interception by Gryphons linebacker Juan Serrano, who returned it 92 yards for the touchdown, giving Greater Lowell a 24-6 lead heading into halftime.

“We switched it up a little bit this week, (Serrano) was more of an H-back last week. We put him at the A-back, the running back position, and he’s got a little bit of a pop to him,” Gryphons head coach Shane Abrams said of Serrano.

“He played a great game, both sides of the ball. We have a player-of-the-game chain, and it was given to him tonight.”

Turnovers plagued the Vikings’ offense, coughing the football up five times, four times in the first half.

“It’s a focus for us. We understand the turnover-takeaway margin, you have a 75 percent better chance to win the football game,” Abrams said. “So it’s definitely a goal for our team every week.”

The Gryphons continued to push the gas pedal, as Noel scored on a 58-yard rushing touchdown on the first play of the second half.

“We made a little adjustment to one of our favorite plays and first play out the gate, we ran it and it worked and the adjustment worked really well,” Abrams said. “The kids executed it perfectly, and I think that sealed the deal for us.”

Serrano added a rushing touchdown to extend the lead to 36-6.
