On July 11, 12 and 13, 17 youth and 10 adults from the parishes of St. Mary and St. Anthony went out into the communities of Ayer and Shirley and did work for the elderly and those unable to do it themselves.
They cleaned out porches, garages and barns. They cleared overgrown brush, pulled weeds, cleaned gutters, mowed lawns, painted and washed windows. They stood up fallen gravestones at the cemeteries of St. Mary and St. Anthony.
This was the first “Mission Days” held at the two parishes. It was put together by a group of volunteer adults in order to give the youth of the parishes a Mission experience without going to a foreign country. The youth and adults did good works right here in our own communities.
The Sisters of the Holy Union provided lunches for the volunteers. Other women from the parish prepared breakfast every day.
All involved had an amazing experience and look forward to doing it again next summer on July 10, 11 and 12, 2018.
