NASHUA, N.H. — Peacock Players & Company, New Hampshire’s premiere award-winning theatre, will present the new musical comedy “Heathers The Musical” for two weekends in August at the Janice B. Streeter Theater, located at 14 Court Street in Nashua, NH.
Based on the cult classic 1989 film, Westerberg High is ruled by a shoulder-padded, scrunchie-wearing junta: Heather, Heather and Heather, the hottest and cruelest girls in all of Ohio. But misfit Veronica Sawyer rejects their evil regime for a new boyfriend, the dark and sexy stranger J.D., who plans to put the Heathers in their place — six feet under.
The production will be helmed by Broadway veteran performer and Artistic Director Keith Weirich. Musical Director Henry Kopczynskie III and Choreographer Valerie Psoinos Nelson will also lend their talents to the production. This specific production team carries the distinction of having received New Hampshire Theatre Awards for the past three consecutive years. In addition, Weirich will design the scenic elements and lighting for this production with the help of longtime award-winning colleague Norm St. Germain, award-winner Rich Loomer designing sound, and Rosie Svenson designing costumes.
“Peacock Players’ passion for engaging audiences with electric and bold storytelling makes presenting the New Hampshire debut of this cult classic all the more fun,” says Weirich. “I believe that we work extremely well as a production team. We are always searching out new ways to serve and to further the story, the score, and the characters. We are all longtime fans of the film and we can’t wait to share this production.”
The cast features Alexander Nick (of Pepperell) as Band Geek and Elsa Keefe (of Lowell) as Pop Star Poser. The rest of the ensemble is rounded out with New Hampshire’s most recognized and awarded young theatre performers.
“High school hallways have always been a social minefield with bullies and cliques behind every locker door,” adds Weirich. “Heathers is an irreverent, ingenious, and hysterical new musical that is deliciously dark and infectiously funny.”
“Heathers The Musical” — rated R due to mature language and content, sexual themes, and violence — will mark the final production of Peacock Players’ 41st Annual Mainstage season. Performances are scheduled for Friday, Aug. 11 at 7 p.m., Saturday Aug. 12 at 7 p.m., Sunday Aug. 13 at 2 p.m., Thursday Aug. 17 at 7 p.m., Friday Aug. 18 at 7 p.m., Saturday Aug. 19 at 7 p.m., and Sunday Aug. 20 at 2 p.m. To purchase tickets, or for more information, call the Box Office at (603) 886-7000 or visit www.peacockplayers.org.
