TOWNSEND — Ken Arsenault, former Hawthorne Brook Middle School Band Director, will be conducting the Townsend Military Band in its Thursday, Aug. 10, concert on the Townsend Common.
The music to be played during that evening concert was selected by Arsenault, who has played trumpet with the Townsend Band for many years.
The Townsend Fire/EMS Relief Association will host the lawn party at the concert. Townsend Fire/EMS personnel will be selling hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, bacon cheeseburgers, and sausages to hungry concertgoers. They will also have fried dough, baked goods, and cold soda and bottled water for sale.
Fire/EMS personnel will set up several games, a bouncy house, and a dunk tank on the Common that evening for the enjoyment of young people attending the concert.
The Townsend Military Band will open its concert at 7:30 p.m. by playing “Flourish for Wind Band” by Vaughan Williams and Osterling’s “Nutmeggers March.” “The Phantom Of the Opera,” “Three Ayres From Gloucester” by Stuart, and the “One Finger Polka” by Walters will be performed. Osterling’s “Costa Brava” and Sousa’s “Washington Post March” will be included in the first portion of the concert.
Following intermission, “Bandology” by Osterling and “Just a Closer Walk With Thee” arranged by Gillis will be offered. “Begin the Beguine,” Lowden’s arrangement of “I Dreamed a Dream”, and Melyan’s “Cha Cha For Band” will be played. The “Billboard March” by Klohr will be performed before the band concludes its concert at 9:30 by playing the “Star Spangled Banner.”
