The lawn party to be held in conjunction with the Townsend Military Band’s Thursday, July 20, concert on the Townsend Common will benefit the Kids Kountry Playground.
The funds raised will be used to purchase new equipment and to refurbish existing structures at the Kids Kountry Playground, which is located behind the Spaulding Memorial Elementary School at the corner of Eastman Street and Turnpike Road in Townsend.
Hot dogs, hamburgers, and cold soda and bottled water will be available for purchase by concertgoers between 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. Ice cream sundaes, root beer floats, orange floats, popcorn, and a variety of homemade baked goods will also be on sale.
Children attending the concert will be able to have their face painted, play in a bounce house, and win prizes by playing the pot luck, noodle smash, and lollipop games.
The Townsend Military Band under the direction of Thomas Souza will open its concert at 7:30 p.m. by playing the “Ragtime Regiment Medley March” arranged by Lewis and Sousa’s “Willow Blossoms.” Tyers’ arrangement of the “Junk Man Rag,” Ward’s “Clarinet Escapade,” and Lake’s arrangement of the “Old Timers Waltz” will be performed. The “Smiles March” arranged by Renter, Yoder’s arrangement of “Tiger Rag,” and Lake’s arrangement of “Alexander’s Ragtime Band” will be played during the first portion of the concert.
The “Glory of the Yankee Navy March” by Sousa and Godfrey’s arrangement of the “Pirates of Penzance Selections” will be played following intermission. Burden’s arrangement of “Fiddler on the Roof” and Hall’s “Independentia” march will be performed before the Townsend Band concludes its concert at 9:30 by playing the “Star Spangled Banner.”
