I am excited to announce that after a many month absence from the spire of the Old Groton Meetinghouse, the 250 year old rooster weather vane affectionately known as “Buddy” returns to his rightful place overlooking Minuteman Common on Saturday morning, July 15, 10 a.m.

Light refreshments will be served in the Meetinghouse following Buddy’s unveiling. There will be slide show detailing Buddy’s history and transformation.

Come and join in the fun and celebration. We will be joined by Groton Minuteman Drummers and Muskets. We hope to see Earl Carter’s beautifully restored Revolutionary War cannon. Bring your cameras to capture Buddy’s photogenic presence.

Buddy’s re-installation marks the completion of the Phase 1 Meetinghouse Restoration Project. This project was made possible by a generous Community Preservation grant from the Town of Groton, from a Massachusetts Historical Commission grant, and from generous private donations from the First Parish Congregation and from the Citizens of Groton.

This project confirms for me the amazing things we can accomplish together. One more final thank you to all those who made this project possible.
