LANCASTER — Coach Gerry Morrill’s U12 girls advanced to the final four on Sunday before losing to eventual tournament runner-up Monson. On Friday the girls trounced South Hadley 5-0, and tied a tough Wilmington team, 1-1. On Saturday they clinched their semifinal group with a solid 4-1 win over Sandwich.
On Sunday they drew Monson in the final four but couldn’t match up against the speedy team from Western Mass., losing 3-8, and taking 4th place overall in their division.
U12 Boys
Coach Mark DiCicco’s U12 boys were in a tough group of teams and couldn’t muster enough offense.
They fought hard to the final whistle in every contest. They lost to Brockton, 6-3, Stoneham, 2-0, and Dartmouth, 2-0.
High School girls
Coach Kevin Buckley’s High School girls: finished 1-1-1 and just missed a spot in the final four on Sunday.
They trounced Holden, 7-0, tied Franklin, 3-3, and lost a tough one to Freetown-Lakeville, 2-0.
U14 girls
Coach Keith Bagley’s U14 Girls were forced to play three games on Saturday because of Pepperell’s 8th grade graduation the previous night.
So not only having a ‘late night’ the night before, they also had to endure the sweltering conditions and also a tough group of opponents on Saturday. They fought hard and lost close games to Beverly, 1-0, Dartmouth, 2-1, and Dalton, 3-1. All in all, the kids enjoyed the festival atmosphere and the experience of competing against some of the finest players in the state.
All four teams represented Pepperell soccer well.
