AYER — Imagine what people did for fun back in the late 1800s before TV, video games, and movies. Then, they preferred live music from the local community band. Today, the Nashoba Valley Concert Band continues tradition by performing admission-free summer concerts such as for Ayer’s July fireworks celebration. This year, the band is adding new pieces such as “Blue Moon,” featuring vocalist Priscilla Swain, and “Satchmo,” a tribute to Louis Armstrong featuring trumpeter
Steve Keville.
The first concert is May 13 for the Rotary Apple Blossom Festival in Harvard with many more summer events to follow. Visit the website at nvcb.webs.com for more dates. The band also seeks new players of all levels and ages, especially percussion and lower brass.
