HARVARD — The Rotary Club is asking the public to answer an important question: Where will you go if you win dinner for two anywhere in the world?
That’s the grand prize in the world famous Ducky Wucky River Race set for May 13. The charity fundraiser has turned dozens of area residents into globetrotters, sending couples to Paris, Rome, Sydney and Hong Kong, among many other exotic locales.
The public is asked to share their dream destinations in a post on the Facebook page of the Rotary Club of Ayer, Harvard, Shirley and Devens, at www.facebook.com/AyerRotary. Tickets are now available from Rotary Club members and participating ticket sellers. More information is available at www.DuckyWucky.org.
The race will kick off at 4:30 p.m. – rain or shine – with up to 10,000 rubber ducks racing down the Nashua River in Harvard. The bib number on the winning duck will determine which ticket holder wins the grand prize.
Tickets will also be available on the race day at the annual Apple Blossom Festival on Harvard Common. The festival is a popular family attraction featuring live music, shopping, food, children’s games and fire truck rides. The festival is held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Ducky Wucky River Race and Apple Blossom Festival are the signature fundraisers of the Rotary Club, which contributes all proceeds to charitable causes. The Club serves the Ayer, Shirley, Harvard and Devens communities.
The Club’s recent community service projects include giving a dictionary to every third grader in Ayer, Shirley and Harvard. The Club also started the Ramp to Freedom project, which builds handicapped ramps for housebound people in the region. The Club annually provides scholarships to high school seniors, supports Loaves & Fishes food pantry, and numerous other worthy causes.
The Ayer Rotary Club is able to make such contributions through the outpouring of community support and the generous contributions of the event sponsors, many of whom are locations for buying Ducky Wucky tickets. The 2017 race sponsors are: Gervais Ford, Main Street Bank, Nikopoulos Insurance, The Bull Run Restaurant, The Lexvest Group, Ayer Moving and Storage, Alexander Advisors, IC Federal Credit Union, Thomas E. Sears Insurance Agency, SpringHill Suites by Marriott and Deves Common Center, Reese’s Travel Adventures, the exclusive travel agent of the Ducky Wucky River Race.
