SHIRLEY — A solicitor claiming he was sent by National Grid has been going door-to-door in Shirley attempting to obtain the billing information of residents so they can be automatically enrolled in another energy company’s program, according to Shirley police officials.
The Shirley Police Department posted a message on its Facebook page warning residents about the scam. Police said a man from a company called Energy Inc. was knocking on doors and falsely telling people he was sent by National Grid “to check out your electric bill to see if you qualify for a discounted rate.”
“National Grid is not sending anyone to see if you qualify for a discounted rate under the company name of Energy Inc.,” the post read. “Energy Inc. is a third party trying to obtain your billing information so they can enroll you in their program without your knowledge or permission.”
Police have received several complaints and are currently investigating. Any resident who is contacted by Energy Inc. should contact the department at 978-425-2642. Obtain a name or vehicle info for the individual.
