WORCESTER — The Groton-Dunstable girls lacrosse team dropped a 17-6 decision to South champion Norwell during a Division 2 state semifinal clash Tuesday night at Foley Stadium.
Last year, Norwell defeated Groton-Dunstable in the state final at Harvard University. Stephanie Croke tallied 5 goals and Riley Bergholtz added 4 goals for the winners.
For Groton-Dunstable, Maria Antonellis made 12 saves.
Offensively, the Crusaders were led by Sophie Irby, who claimed 2 goals and 2 assists, and Ellie Eisenklam, who found the back of the net twice for the Groton school.
Sammi Smith and Sara Walsh each added a goal each for Groton-Dunstable (17-5).
The Crusaders captured the Division 2 Central/West championship by nipping Bromfield, 7-6, in a double-overtime thriller.
Earlier in the tournament, G-D defeated Hudson, Mt. Greylock, and Tyngsboro.
