TOWNSEND — A Townsend man has been charged with allegedly stabbing his neighbor early Friday morning after she knocked on his door and asked him to lower the noise, according to a police press release.

Around 12:35 a.m., a 65-year-old female tenant at 5 Turnpike Road in Townsend knocked on the door of another tenant, 35-year-old Christopher Polakowski, “to request the noise level cease,” according to the release. Polakowski then allegedly stabbed the victim three times with a knife and retreated into his apartment.

The woman was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester and is reported to be in stable condition, the release stated.

Polakowski was arrested and charged with assault to murder, assault and battery with a deadly weapon and attempted murder, police said. He was held on $50,000 cash bail ahead of a Friday arraignment in Ayer District Court.

An investigation is ongoing with help from Massachusetts State Police.
