GROTON — ArtsNashoba brings the loveable HONK! to life with performances on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m. at Richardson-Mees Performing Arts Center at Lawrence Academy, Groton. In addition, a special autism/special needs friendly performance takes place on Thursday, March 31 during the dress rehearsal.
Based on Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairy tale “The Ugly Duckling, ” ever since it first hatched in 1993, the beloved Stiles and Drewe musical has charmed audiences with its story of Ugly, a tiny winged creature who looks different from his darling duckling siblings.
The other animals on the farm quickly notice and point his out, despite his mother’s protective flapping. Feeling foul about himself, the little fowl embarks on a self-discovery adventure while outwitting the very hungry Cat. And, along the way, Ugly meets a flock of unique characters and finds out that being different is not so bad at all.
JulieAnn Govang directs a cast of talented kids from Nashoba Valley towns, including Groton, Pepperell, Ayer and Shirley. Nick D’Amico is musical director and Sharon Bisantz choreographs.
Tickets are $8, students/seniors; $10, adults at www.artsnashoba.org or at the door.
