Down the stretch, Sheridan stole the show as the Patriot goalie prevented the Chieftains from getting the equalizer. Sheridan made nine of his 22 saves in the third period.

“He was been great all season,” McCarthy said. “The thing that he did best for us tonight other than stop pucks was control rebounds and tie pucks up.”

Despite tasting defeat for the first time this winter, Short was pleased with how his team battled all night.

“I thought they pretty resilient,” Short said. “We were a little undisciplined at times in the second. That showed in the shots and on the scoreboard. They popped in two quick goals because they are a quality hockey team.”
