Let’s face it — the best time of year in New England is fall and the best time to take a drive in New England is when the falling leaves are at their best and our streets become an artist’s color palette of oranges, golds, warm salmons and all shades of greens and reds. Bright and vibrant combinations of color are just so beautiful and for someone on the road all the time, I can physically see the changes happening right before my eyes during my daily drive and commute.
When life becomes busy and you find there’s not enough time to decorate your home for Halloween or for the fall, try these simple decorating tips for the exterior of your home. You don’t have to put a lot of time and effort into creating something unique and beautiful by using what you have.
Take advantage of existing planters and garden containers that have been out all summer and filled with summer booms.
Plant urns or flower boxes can be refilled now with fall fruits from the garden, creating minimum maintenance for decorations. Even fall flowers need to be watered and maintained. With a busy schedule, sometimes watering is forgotten. Try filling planters and containers with fall fruits of color.
Large pumpkins can fill urns on the side of the garage door. Placing them in the center will require no maintenance at all and will add a warm and welcoming feel to visitors entering your drive.
Replacing window boxes with a variety of small pumpkins and colorful gourds in varying shapes and sizes adds interest to the home and promotes the fall harvest season.
Of course, the old standby of a bunch of colorful ears of dried corn can always embellish your front door. Again, little effort and maintenance is required for these simple yet colorful fall decorations for the exterior of your home.
