AYER — The Ayer Shirley Regional High School (ASRHS) Music Boosters and the concert band and choir students are hosting their 2nd Annual Quarter Mania Auction to raise funds to compete in a music competition in May 2017.
A quarter auction is a fundraising event in which you have the opportunity to bid on prizes for quarters. A $5 donation includes one paddle and additional paddles can be purchased for $3.
Prizes to be auctioned off range from $10 to $200 and include cookie baskets, a chimney sweep, and various gifts cards.
“You could come and spend $5 on a paddle and place a few bets and then win something that is a $100 prize,” Martinez said.
Local businesses have donated items and services to the auction.
All of the funds raised with go towards the concert band and choir students trip to Philadelphia, where they will compete in the ‘Music in the Parks’ competition in May 2016. The cost for one student to attend the competition is $626.
“They would drive down in a motor coach bus to Six Flags, where the competition is being held, and perform and be judged and then after that the music director will get a packet of feedback of ways they can improve,” Jennifer Martinez, music booster treasurer, said.
This is the first time the concert band and choir students are trying to raise funds for this particular competition.
“It is still pending if we are going or not but if we aren’t able to raise enough funds the money will be put towards future events like this,” Martinez said.
The auction will be held on Wednesday in the cafeteria at ASRHS. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the auction will begin at 7 p.m. For information or to get involved, contact Amy Messcher, ASRHS Music Boosters Chair, at 978-772-2726 or jamesscher@verizo
