SHIRLEY — Selectmen on Monday night thanked the “12U” (for players under age 12) Ayer Shirley All Star baseball team for bringing the state trophy home.
“It was an unbelievable year for this baseball team,” Selectman David Swain said, marveling at the accomplishments of team members and their coaches, most of whom showed up for the occasion, along with family members and friends.
“You’ve gone farther than any other area team has so far,” Swain said. “I really want to thank you. ”
Team manager Kevin Heinz responded in kind.
“Thank you for hosting the 12U All-Star Team this evening,” he said. “These young men have done so much for the community.”
The big win was even more gratifying since everyone who tried out made the team.
“We didn’t cut anyone this year,” Heinz said.
Heinz continued in a later e-mail: “The team (members) would like to thank all of their sponsors, fans, coaches and families for supporting them throughout their youth baseball careers and making all this possible.”
He also thanked the selectmen again, “for inviting us to their… meeting and for recognizing the boys.”
