Shirley man badly injured in Townsend motorcycle crash

PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

TOWNSEND– A 30-year-old Shirley man suffered broken legs and a head wound after crashing his motorcycle on Brookline Street in Townsend on Saturday night.

The driver, Gerald Hermann, of School Street in Shirley, was listed in stable condition Monday at UMass Medical Center in Worcester.

Hermann crashed his motorcycle into a utility pole Saturday shortly after 6 p.m., causing the front forks to separate from the rest of the motorcycle, according to police.

A preliminary investigation showed that speed was a factor in the accident. The incident remains under investigation by Townsend police and the reconstruction unit of the Massachusetts State Police.
