TOWNSEND — At approximately 3:09 p.m. Wednesday, Townsend Police along with Townsend Fire/EMS responded to a reported bicycle accident with injury in the area of 52 West Elm St. in West Townsend.

Upon arriving at the scene, emergency crews found a 52-year-old female victim who had suffered a significant head injury.

Preliminary investigation revealed the woman had hit a pothole while riding her bike with her 14-year-old son, which caused her to get thrown over the handlebars, striking her head. It was reported that the woman was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Due to the severity of her injuries, the female victim, whose name is being withheld at this time, was flown by MedFlight helicopter to UMass Memorial in Worcester.
