In a faraway kingdom, the green ogre, Shrek, finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale misfits, runaways who’ve been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions.
When Shrek sets off with a wise-cracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he’s handed a task: If he rescues feisty Princess Fiona from the Dragon-guarded tower, his swamp will be returned to him. But a fairy tale wouldn’t be complete without unexpected twists and turns along the way.
Part romance and part twisted fairytale, Shrek Jr. is based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, and is an irreverently fun show for the whole family. The stage production is licensed through Music Theater International.
A cast and crew of 28 area youth ages 7-13 hail from towns including Shirley, Groton, Ayer, Dunstable, Lunenburg and Fitchburg.
Lunenburg’s Nicholas Parrella is Shrek, Katie Kilcommins of Ayer plays Ogre Fiona, Groton’s Anna Santoro plays Princess Fiona, Lilly Robinson of Shirley plays Lord Farquaad, Olivia Oestreicher of Ayer plays Dragon; Shirley’s Jeanne McCarron plays Shrek’s hilarious sidekick, Donkey; Jonah Rodman of Groton plays Pinocchio; and Samuel Oestreicher of Ayer plays everyone’s favorite cookie, Gingy. The show is directed by Meredith Marcinkewicz and choreographed by Laurie Marcinkewicz.
